SGA Senate Meeting Minutes from 9/22/08 and 10/6/08

Hey everybody! Sorry it has taken me so long to get these minutes up from our SGA Senate meetings but here they are! At our meeting on September 22, Marc discussed the lunch meeting about the Green Initiatives. Suggestions were made such as putting up more bike racks and putting up some kind of walking path from Campus Suites so that people wouldn't have to drive if they didn't want to. Also, the HEC will be ready by the first week in January, but the kick-off day is January 14th. McKenzie discussed the old business. The idea of a social hour being added to the schedule will be brought up at a later time. Also the wording on the Constitution change was being worked on. Mr. Mark Ritter came to speak about the HEC and how there will be opportunities for student employment, needed life guards, building supervisors, etc. This complex will be primarily for student recreation! If you would like further information you may email him at mritter@uscupstate.edu. Later, Myra from www.myspartanjob.com came and discussed the employment process and pay period and pay dates for those employed by Upstate. Then we had the swearing in of 2008-2009 executive members and senators.

At the SGA Senate meeting held on October 6, after giving the minutes from last meeting, McKenzie brought up old business including the change of Constitution wording. The change was voted into the Constitution concerning a plan of action and end-of-semester evaluation for clubs and organizations. Ximena came later to give the Treasurers report. Mike Hall, the director of Athletics came to speak about the athletic department. He wanted everyone to know that USC Upstate is NOT getting a football team in the near future, and is NOT getting a swim team. Also he emphasized that students, faculty and staff are FREE to ALL athletic events. Also, a reminder that October 20th at 10:30 pm is the MIDNIGHT MADNESS event! Also, since Upstate is now Division One, the GAMECOCKS baseball team will be on Campus April 21st this year!! If you have any questions or concerns you can email Mike at mhall@uscupstate.edu. McKenzie later came to receive any questions or concerns to bring up at the academics meeting on October 29th. If you have any question or concerns regarding your academic classes or scheduling, please email us at sga@uscupstate.edu. The hours for the new HEC were discussed and will be tried out to be open late Monday through Thursday but close earlier on Friday. On the weekends, the complex will be open mid-day on Saturday and open late again on Sunday.
