Apply NOW: SE in GE Bootcamp

The AACU IEIL Experiential Learning in Gen Ed taskforce, in cooperation with the Office of Service Learning and Community Engagement, CAIFS and the Provost’s office, invites you to apply to join a summer 3-day bootcamp in preparation including service in your GE course for Fall 2023.

Apply by March 1, 2023 for priority consideration

Anticipated Bootcamp Dates: July 18-20
(additional possible dates July 25-27, if demand warrants two sessions)

Service Engagement in General Education Bootcamp

  • Bootcamp Purpose:
    Prepare interested instructors to incorporate 4 hours of service into an officially designated Service Engagement Gen Ed course section they will teach in Fall 2023 as part of a unified program across multiple disciplines with general theme of ecological goodness and conservation with Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE) and other pre-determined community partners
  • Eligibility:
    Open to anyone teaching a General Education course section in Fall 2023
  • Bootcamp Modality
    2 hybrid days with one face-to-face day, including a service field trip
  • Compensation:
    $750 stipend; payable at the conclusion of your course offering
  • Expectations:
    In general, participants are expected to continue teaching their GE course as SE, serve as a mentor for others interested in making a similar switch, and to share their experiences in unit meetings, at the SL/CE showcase &/or at the Upstate Research Symposium
  • NOTE:
    Your department/division chair and general education course coordinator (if applicable) will need to approve your application
