On Friday, December 1st, join us as we celebrate Arbor Day with our final Engaging Green Fall ’23 cleanup day for a closing ceremony at the Upper Chinquapin Greenway, where we will enjoy stories, company, hot cocoa and smores! This event is free and open to everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our celebration has been graciously incorporated into an exciting day full of events planned by our University Arbor Day Committee, so read on to learn more about everything happening around campus on December 1st, as well as how to join us at the Greenway! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arbor Day Festivities<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning at 10:15 am at the Ro\u00ebl Pavilion*, USC Upstate will welcome special Arbor Day guests to campus, followed by a fireside chat at 10:30 am led by <\/mark>SPACE<\/mark><\/a> <\/mark>Executive Director Sam Parrot as well as Dr. Kevin Parris, director of the Arboretum<\/mark><\/a> at Spartanburg Community College.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The fireside chat is free and open to anyone who would like to come listen to two of Spartanburg’s environmentally focused community leaders chat about balancing economic growth and building with care and concern for the natural environment which sustains us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fun Fact: USC Upstate has been designated a Tree Campus USA<\/a> by the Arbor Day Foundation for 14 consecutive years! Read more about this distinction in an Upstate article here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*The Ro\u00ebl Pavilion is located at the west end of the Susan B. Jacobs Arboretum, near the P. Kathryn Hicks Visual Arts Center<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engaging Green Celebration<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

For our Engaging Green celebration, we will meet at the CLC Loop<\/a> for a shuttle to the Greenway, which will depart at 11:30 am<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are also welcome to drive to the Upper Chinquapin Greenway and join the festivities that way (here<\/a> are the directions from Google Maps–it’s less than a mile from campus).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will be joined by community and campus leadership at the Greenway, so, we encourage students and faculty to wear their USC Upstate Gear to show their Spartan Pride! Be sure to bundle up and dress for the weather, since the celebration will take place outside.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First,<\/strong> <\/span><\/mark>we will walk about .5 miles of trail together, joined by the leadership team at SPACE, to take in the sights and celebrate all of the hard work put in by our students this semester.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As a reminder, we do have a cleanup scheduled on December 1st from 10am-12pm. These students will be able to join us for the celebration at 11:30 since they’ll already be at the Greenway, and will walk back from their cleanup site together with the larger group of attendees. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once we return from our walk, we will enjoy hot chocolate and s’mores by a campfire at the pavilion as we share company and talk about our experiences at the Greenway this semester!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first shuttle back to campus will depart at 12pm<\/mark><\/strong>, with priority given to students who arrived at the Greenway for the 10am cleanup.<\/p>\n<\/div>

From 12pm to 1pm<\/strong><\/mark>, shuttles will depart back to campus at 15-minute intervals, so participants may choose to travel back on any of these shuttle runs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last shuttle will depart the Greenway at 1pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
