{"id":1326,"date":"2024-01-10T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-10T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uscupstate.edu\/servicestories\/?p=1326"},"modified":"2025-10-25T14:43:20","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T14:43:20","slug":"service-stories-archive-community-and-public-health-nursing-nurs-461","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uscupstate.edu\/servicestories\/service-stories-archive-community-and-public-health-nursing-nurs-461\/","title":{"rendered":"Service Stories Archive: Community and Public Health Nursing (NURS U461)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>This article was originally published in<\/em> <em>the &#8217;19-&#8217;20 academic year.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students in multiple sections of\u00a0Community and Public Health Nursing (NURS U461) work with a variety of community partners to explore health issues in our Upstate community.\u00a0In addition to serving alongside nurses in public schools, in hospice agencies, in home health agencies, and at detention centers,\u00a0NURSU461 students\u00a0also engage in educational outreach, sharing knowledge they have gained throughout their nursing curriculum with the community at large.\u00a0 Under the leadership of Mary Black School of Nursing instructor, Lindsay Grainger, students in NURSU461 during Fall 2019 were presented with a unique challenge.\u00a0 Given only three hours to design and film a public service announcement (PSA) on a chosen public health topic, students generated timely, educational and entertaining videos to educate the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are two PSA video examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/HQZvQ-yHw60\">Sepsis &#8211; Early Detection for Health Care Workers<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/-uvIhUzGbQQ\">Human Trafficking &#8211; Victim Identification for Health Care Workers<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NOTE:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The volume on the videos may be a bit weak.
