Pike has established a significant partnership with Joe Hursey, historian at the <a href=\"https:\/\/piedmonthistoricalpreservationsociety.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Piedmont Historical Preservation Society<\/a>. In her HIST U325 course, Women in the US Since 1865, students transcribed archived letters dating back to 1865 that belonged to the women of the prominent Piedmont-area Payne and Peden families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students not only transcribed the letters into digital form, but they also created an interactive online digital exhibit for the USC Upstate Library to house and contextualize the transcriptions. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/uscupstate.libguides.com\/Blanche-Payne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Letters of Blanche Peden Payne Digital Exhibit<\/a><\/em> is available online for visitors to the Piedmont Historical Preservation Society as well as general audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><div class=\"wpcp-wp-lightbox-host wpcp-advanced-image-lightbox-icon-hover\"><a class=\"wpcp-wp-lightbox-image-link\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uscupstate.edu\/servicestories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/The-Letters-of-Blanche-Peden-Payne.png\" data-wpcp-wp-lb-image=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"277\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uscupstate.edu\/servicestories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/The-Letters-of-Blanche-Peden-Payne.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of The Letters of Blanche Peden Payne Digital Exhibit of the University of South Carolina Upstate Archives &amp; Pike explained. &#8220;Many of these women worried over potential husbands, what dresses they would wear to church on Sunday, how they were doing in school, if they would be able to go to the county fair, and how their friends and loved ones were doing during very turbulent times like WWI and the Great Depression.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The digital exhibits created by the students allow community members who are unable to travel to the museum as well as scholars near and far to gain access to the letters and transcripts without having to physically visit the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pike&#8217;s students have also gained valuable professional experience as presenters at historical society special events.
