This fall, students in 35 courses and 71 unique sections are participating in Service Learning and Community Engagement (SL\/CE) opportunities with community partners throughout the Upstate and beyond. Through these courses, students gain hands-on experience applying skills they learn in class to solve problems and meet community needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arts & Communication<\/mark><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

                    Service Learning Requirements<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    The three dropdowns below indicate what each term ENGAGE Upstate uses means, and what a course would require to be recognized as such. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    SL – Service Learning<\/summary>\n

                    A course that heavily emphasizes a service project for a community member as a central aspect and includes at least 15 hours* of direct work on the project, academic instruction that ties to the service project, and meaningful reflection.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                    SE – Service Engaged<\/summary>\n

                    A course that facilitates service as a project for students in which they engage in the service for at least 4 hours.  Project is tied to classroom instruction and followed with meaningful reflection.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

                    CE – Community Engaged<\/summary>\n
