Congratulations to Araceli Hernandez-Laroche, the winner of our first-ever SL\/CE Course Reallocation award!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hernandez-Laroche’s approach to service-learning has been interdisciplinary and collaborative blending French with Criminal Justice, Sociology, Global Studies, and the Honors College in Global Migration in the 21st Century<\/em> and The Twin Ills of Terrorism & Torture: A Global Perspective <\/em>both co-taught with Dr. Samantha Hauptman.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Moving forward, Araceli will use her release time to add service-learning to her recently senate-approved course in French\u00a0(355) French Thought and Leadership, <\/em>again cross-listed with Global Studies (301) Global Cultures and Identities<\/em>. She also plans to further her scholarship on an in-progress book proposal on the Multilingual Public Humanities<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hernandez-Laroche’s professional service and scholarship are very much about developing new areas of academic study and engagement with community partners. In addition to directing El Centro, the first University-based center for Hispanic studies in South Carolina, she serves on national, state, and local boards and regularly finds ways to get her students involved in service to the community, mentoring them in their personal and professional growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
