Sadly, when we isolate this statistic to children, the number rises to over 14%. On the global scale, this number increases to nearly 25%. The Action Against Hunger organization sounds a clarion call, noting that after a decade of successful mitigation of this issue, the number of undernourished people grew by as many as 150 million from 2019 to 2022 due to COVID-19, climate change, and civil unrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a gentle reminder, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscupstate.edu\/campus-life\/spartans-care\/spartan-pantry\/\">Spartan Pantry<\/a> exists on both our Spartanburg and Greenville campuses and serves any currently enrolled USC Upstate student in emergency on a \u201cno questions asked\u201d, honor system, designed to maximize privacy and minimize stigma for students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donations are gratefully accepted. Spartan&#8217;s Pantry accepts non-perishable food items, toiletries, and general cleaning supplies.\u00a0 <em>(Frozen items, fresh produce, and expired items cannot be accepted.)\u00a0<\/em> Monetary donations are also appreciated and can be coordinated through <a href=\"mailto:kladivk@uscupstate.edu\" data-type=\"mailto\" data-id=\"mailto:kladivk@uscupstate.edu\">Dr. Deb Kladivko<\/a> or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscupstate.edu\/about-the-university\/university-advancement\/\">University Advancement Office<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read also about one of our students who <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uscupstate.edu\/servicestories\/2022\/12\/08\/homelessness-to-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">experienced homelessness<\/a>, then joined WGST 101 in serving others in similar situations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upstate also has a campus-based Community Resource Coordinator (CRC) from the United Way who can help students with challenges that might impede their academic success.
