University of South Carolina-Upstate Alumni, Lindsay Harris began her work at Zillow in July of 2021. More than a year into the Coronavirus pandemic, this was a career change that Harris described as a “no-brainer”. Since Harris’s time at Upstate, she has utilized her degree in English in various ways.
The first job where Harris felt she was truly utilizing the specifics of her degree came in the form of a job for Parks, Recreation, and Tourism for South Carolina as a tourism coordinator. A year later, Harris found other work at the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce which provided a more realized growth plan for its employees. At the Chamber, Harris was a Membership Development Specialist. She described her time at the Chamber as important as it provided her with experience working with businesses and how consultative selling works. She worked with the chamber for three years.
After her time at the Chamber, Harris worked as a sales account manager at Pyramid Hotel group for almost five years. Once the pandemic hit, Harris described a need for change. A year after this epiphany, she was recruited by Zillow, where she still works today. Currently, Harris is a business advisor for Zillow where she “manages a book of business” for Zillow’s partners who advertise with the company. Furthermore, she acts as a rep for local real estate agents who advertise through Zillow Premier Agent.
Harris described a B.A. in English degree as applicable to a myriad of career paths, saying “to me, English was like selling ideas”. Today, Harris has much to celebrate with a job and career path that brings her fulfillment and works in line with her values. In response to possibly leaving her current job, she said, “I’m probably never going to leave unless they make me. I really love it”.
