Service Learning Requirements
The three dropdowns below indicate what each term ENGAGE Upstate uses means, and what a course would require to be recognized as such.
SL – Service Learning
A course that heavily emphasizes a service project for a community member as a central aspect and includes at least 15 hours* of direct work on the project, academic instruction that ties to the service project, and meaningful reflection.
SE – Service Engaged
A course that facilitates service as a project for students in which they engage in the service for at least 4 hours. Project is tied to classroom instruction and followed with meaningful reflection.
CE – Community Engaged
A course that requires students to participate in 4 hours of community-related engagement (going to a community event, observing community meetings, et cetera) related to classroom instruction and followed with meaningful reflection.
